Daredevil Show Runner, Drew Goddard To Write and Direct X-Force For Fox
With the success of the R-rated comic adaptations of Deadpool and Logan, Fox want to continue that run and, according to Deadline, have chosen Writer / Director Drew Goddard to spearhead their X-Force movie as part of their X-Universe. In the comics, X-Force are a black ops mutant team, who are selected to do the dirty work the X-Men cant do. Like the X-Men, it’s a revolving roster of characters, with Wolverine, Deadpool, Archangel, X-23, Domino and Colossus having been members at one point or other. The upcoming film is set to feature both Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool and Josh Brolin’s Cable, though it wouldn’t be a surprise if they were joined by Colossus and Domino (both characters will be featured in the upcoming Deadpool Sequel).
Goddard has been a writer in the industry a long time, having worked on Tv shows such as Buffy, Angel, and The Good Place and movies such as Cloverfield, World War Z and The Cabin in the Woods (Which he directed). He was also supposed to Direct The Martian before Ridley Scott took over. Though Goddard ended up being nominated for a best screenplay Oscar. Goddard is a perfect fit for this, and I’m excited to see what he does with this. While everyone is arguing Marvel’s MCU vs DC’s DCEU it seems like Fox is slowly doing their own thing building up their X-Universe. Next up they have the aforementioned Deadpool sequel which is being directed by John Wick co-Director and Atomic Blonde Director David Leitch. X-Men: Dark Phoenix, to be Directed by Simon Kinberg, and New Mutants which is billed as a superhero horror to be Directed by Josh Boone. So Fox have a great line up in the next few years, and that’s not even including the upcoming Gifted tv series and Gambit film which Channing Tatum recently confirmed is still on track.
