DIRECTOR PAUL FEIG UNVEILS HIS CAST FOR THE GHOSTBUSTERS REBOOT
The Ghostbusters return to the big screen has been a long and bumpy road, but with this cast announcement we are one step closer to seeing the return of the franchise for a “new generation”.
Director, Paul Feig (Bridesmaids,The Heat) took to twitter and posted this picture of Kristen Wig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones; Confirming that they are his chosen four to lead the film. McCarthy has already signed on, as she had been in negotiations early on; While the others are in current negotiations with Sony.
The third Ghostbusters film has proven to be a tough project to get off the ground. At one point, original director, Ivan Reitman had agreed to direct with Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson keen to return. However, Bill Murray was always apprehensive about returning and the passing of Harold Ramis led to the whole project being scrapped.
The project then got into Paul Feig’s hands; He envisioned a reboot using an all-female cast that paid homage to the original films, and acknowledging them, without feeling like a parody. Sony was very keen to get his vision off the ground and immediately set him and The Heat co-writer, Katie Dippold, to pen a script. The full cast list is yet to be announced and we are light on story details, though rumor has it that Bill Murray could be making acameo of sorts.
The film is set to get into production this summer.
